FACTORING MOTORISTS' RESPONSES TO THE 1994 NORTHRIDGE EARTHQUAKE
This paper reports on a study which surveyed motorists responses towards changes in their travel patterns following an earthquake. A factor analysis was used to generalize motorists' attributes and behavior when forced to abandon customary routes in the event of a disaster. This information could then be applied to impact the content and format of route guidance information that is provided by Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) following a disaster that adversely impacts an urban transportation system.
