TIELIIKENTEEN SUJUVUUS JA SEN MITTAAMINEN [TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM EFFICIENCY AND ITS ESTIMATION]

This study looks at defining the concept of efficiency in a transportation system, defining the factors that affect this efficiency, studying how road authorities and road user groups perceive it, and how efficiency can be measured in real-time. Interviews and survey were used to help study how road users perceive efficiency. Efficiency indicators were established for car drivers commercial vehicle operators, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Methods for estimating efficiency were researched through literature reviews. Various methods for real-time measurement of efficiency are discussed with emphasis on automatic vehicle identification and automatic vehicle location.
