MANAGING A SMARTCARD FARE SYSTEM IN HONG KONG IN COMMUTER RAIL, URBAN RAIL, FERRIES, AND BUSES
This paper reports on a study which looked at managing a smart card fare system for multimodal transportation applications in Hong Kong. The study had three main objectives: 1) to help each transportation operator to decide whether or not to join a multimodal Commuter Smart Card (CSC) system; 2) to recommend the best form of organization, such that the smart card could accommodate more than just transportation applications; and, 3) to recommend whether a "Transport-only" or full system should be implemented.
