INTEGRATED REVENUE AND TICKETING SYSTEMS IN A MULTI-OPERATOR ENVIRONMENT : CONDITIONS FOR SUCCESS
This paper identifies the main objectives which any revenue and ticketing system has to meet and the features it must possess to meet the requirements of its passengers, operators, and transit authorities. It then identifies and discusses four factors that are necessary for the success of the system: 1) an organization to manage the system; 2) a structure for the system setting out the rights and obligations of all participants; 3) a basis for determining ticket prices and revenue allocation; and, 4) a method for measuring travel on each service.
