NETTING MORE PASSENGERS - THE FUNDAMENTALS OF TRAVEL INFORMATION ON THE WEB - PROCEEDINGS OF THE WORKSHOP ORGANISED BY THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT ON 19 MAY 1999
In 1998, the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) invited the Chartered Institute of Transport (CIT UK) to become the British accrediting body for Internet sites providing public transport information. It envisaged a form of independent 'quality stamp' for these sites. Following agreement by the CIT Board and Council, a Panel was set up, representing several transport bodies. Its first actions were to agree criteria, against which it would accredit sites, and propose a small programme of joint activity, including: (1) a specialists' workshop; (2) a research project to be sponsored by the DETR; and (3) a wider seminar to present the results and benefits to senior management in transport and related sectors. This document presents the Workshop's proceedings, including: a summary of key issues, programme, list of delegates, a summary of the accreditation process and three practical presentations, and reports on two group sessions. The first group discussed opportunites for and obstacles to using the World Wide Web, and the second group considered best practice and future challenges for accreditation. The first and second appendices give further details of the accreditation process and the presentations, respectively.
