TARMAC LEADS WITH COLOUR
Following a successful development programme at Tarmac Quarry Products (TQP), asphalt can now be produced in any colour as well as in black. Aesthetic appearance is increasingly important in the surfacing market, and TQP has several new products with improved appearance, which are also reasonably priced, easy to install, and require little maintenance. TQP's new Mastertint product enables it to supply a range of surfacings, which can be used to design products and colour tones to meet any customer requirements. The key to making it is a new clear pigmentable binder developed with support from bitumen specialist Nynas. This new binder is not based on bitumen, but contains a mixture of components, developed using sophisticated testing equipment. It should perform at least as well as bitumen in surfacings designed for a longer life. Mastertint has been supplied to surfacings in various parts of Glasgow, Scotland, including a primary bus route with heavy traffic.
