BERLIN RE-OPENS AIRPORT BIDDING
German officials in Berlin are preparing new bidding requirements for the privatization of the city's airports, having been told by a court that its selection of a preferred bidder was legally flawed. An important change to the procedure required by the state court of Brandenburg, where the city's new DM4.85-billion airport (US$2.6 billion) will be sited, is for final financial and technical submissions to be more detailed. The contract being fought over so vigorously is essentially for the acquisition of the airport owner, Berlin Brandenburg Flughafen Holding GmbH (BBFH), with the concession to finance, design, build, and operate the new international airport at Schoenefeld. Before this setback, the Hochtief consortium was planning to start construction in 2003 and start operations in 2007.
