LIGHTER CONCRETE COULD MEAN COOLER CITIES
Utah's Department of Transportation (UDOT) is testing a way to ease the heat in cities with a basic principle: white concrete should be cooler than blacktop. UDOT has started with a small patch of white concrete at an intersection in Ogden, Utah. If it works, the department may start using light-colored concrete in other Utah cities in the hopes of reflecting the sunlight normally absorbed by black asphalt.
