SPACE CREATOR

The computer-controlled Trevipark system, developed by the Trevi Group in Italy, enables cars to be parked automatically in underground or overground garages. Owners can retrieve their cars in under 60 seconds after inserting a dedicated card into a console. A Trevipark scheme in the London Borough of Westminster was granted planning permission in May 1999. It will be able to park up to 108 cars in an area of 20m, thus preventing cars from cluttering local streets. Arriving vehicles are automatically measured and placed in the nearest space available or in a preassigned bay. Benefits include security, with closed circuit television (CCTV) monitors controlled from a central unit, and a push-button voice unit giving drivers access at any time to information of instructions about their car's parking. A typical 20m diameter underground reinforced concrete silo, accomodating over 100 cars on nine levels, takes 4-6 months to build, and can be located in a confined space. Its small entrance-exit does not intrude on the environment, and the area above it can be developed independently without interfering with parking operations. Its facilities include automatic car moving in a conveyor depositing or retrieving the car quickly, emergency repair and maintenance systems, and internal and external safety devices.
