EXPERIENCE WITH STEERING-AXLE TRUCKS ON SEPTA'S NORRISTOWN HIGH SPEED LINE
SEPTA's Norristown High Speed Line (NHSL) is unique in the U.S., and most likely, in the world. It is a standard gauge, electric third rail powered, fully grade-separated suburban rapid transit line following a sinuous, uneven routing through hilly country north-west of Philadelphia. This paper presents some of the history of this unique rail line, its operations and its vehicles, and the results of applying an advanced technology to its new fleet.
