AUTOMATIC VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION (AVI) AND WEIGH IN MOTION (WIM) TECHNOLOGIES FOR SECTION PROBE DATA
For several years Norwegian road authorities have carried out studies and trials utilizing new technologies in order to measure section related traffic parameters in real time. Focusing on recognition of vehicles based on AVI tags and WIM sensors, the Norwegian project is a success. The output is accurate traffic information and more reliable criteria for traffic control derived from travel time and delays. Further research is going on and implementation of the system will soon be on its way.
