TRANSPORTATION SAFETY NEEDS OF SMALL TOWNS
The safety of small town roadways could be greatly enhanced if results of recent research were more easily accessible to small town engineers. This could be done with handbooks published by state departments of transportation or with Web sites specifically oriented to the interests of small town engineers. Modification of newly developed methodologies, to make them appropriate and feasible in small towns, would also be useful. Road safety audit procedures adapted for small town use could result in significantly safer small town roads.
