NEW LOGISTIC CONCEPTS FOR ADVANCED URBAN FREIGHT TRANSPORT

Developments in the way of producing goods and in European and national distribution tend to logistic systems that fit wonderfully with the required inter regional networks for efficient urban distribution. In the paper these required and expected modifications in logistic systems are described, and related cost-factors are discussed. Furthermore an overview is given of the most important players in the field of urban and regional distribution and their role in implementing new logistic concepts. The technological requirements (including the required break-throughs, such as in the use and handling of standardised load-units, communication technology and inter-organisational logistic planning systems) are discussed and the potentials of using new technologies are described. By way of conclusion, the newly designed logistic processes are sketched including the time-path to realise such schemes and required actions of players in the logistic field. Also the expected effects of the new designed logistic systems with respect to distribution costs, hindrance and environmental impacts are described. For the covering abstract see IRRD E101781.
