TOLLS CONFIRMED IN MIAMI-DADE VOTE
A mayoral plan to substitute a sales tax increase for tolls in the Miami-Dade area went down in flames July 29, 1999, when voters rejected the plan. After the vote, the Chairman of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) announced that the authority would proceed quickly to begin raising some $2.5 billion in bonds to fund a multiyear plan of toll road extensions and improvements.
