ROUTING AIRCRAFT THROUGH A CONTROL SECTOR
In this paper the problem of strategic control of aircraft within a multi-sector environment is considered. The predicted flight plans given by the airlines are as optimal as possible from an economical point of view and calculated under the assumption that the aircraft is alone in the system. If all aircraft are using such optimal trajectories usually some of them will come into conflict with each other. The problem is to find for every vehicle a trajectory (= path in time and space) such that this system is conflict-free and minimizes a global objective. We propose a solution method for this optimization problem where a column generation scheme is used to produce for every aircraft a reasonable set of possible trajectories. Then an integer linear program is used to find the optimal solution.
