MEASUREMENT OF THE INTENSITY OF STRUCTURE-BORNE SOUND IN SHIPS
Measurements of structural wave intensities associated with various points of a wave field are discussed. Calculations were performed using data obtained purely from the measurement of kinematic quantities, and the feasibility of this approach was experimentally confirmed. The measurements described relate to flexural waves, since these play the major role in sound propagation. Digital analysis of the results was carried out on a Tectronix PDP 1145 computer in at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research in Southampton. Results show that intensity measurements of structureborne sound in ships may be successfully performed by use of an 8-sensor analog-transfer unit.
