A STUDY OF CAR ACCIDENT FACTORS ON SUPERTRAM TRACKS IN SHEFFIELD
This study was commissioned by the Health and Safety Laboratory following the increased incidence of road traffic accidents in Sheffield following the opening of the Sheffield Supertram in 1994. The Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) was contracted to conduct this research. The report is in three sections covering skidding resistance measurements, video studies carried out on site and a mathematical modelling study that incorporates the site data. The results of these three elements of the study are summarised in the final discussion and remedial measures are proposed.
