THE INVESTIGATION OF RADIOISOTOPES FOR THE INSPECTION OF SHIP WELDS
A study was conducted that explored the potentialities of radioactive isotopes for the inspection of welds in ship structures. Various parameters were investigated to determine an optimum radiographic technique for the in- spection of hull welds of 1/2- to 2-in. plate. Technique and sensitivity curves for thulium, iridium, cesium, and cobalt are included. For the inspection of welds in 1/2-in. to 1-in. thick plate, iridium is the most promising isotope. A portable exposure container for iridium has been developed.
