GREEN ISSUES IN LOGISTICS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY COMPARING U.S. AND CANADIAN VIEWS
Environmentalism has been characterized as one of the most important issues facing business during the 1990s. Unfortunately, there have been relatively few empirical studies dealing with the environmental aspects of logistics; this paucity of research is important because environmentalism has been seen as broadening the scope of logistics and influencing the way that logisticians do their jobs. As a result, a major purpose of the present paper is to add to the environmental logistics literature by using a series of propositions to compare U.S. and Canadian views regarding select environmental issues. The study results suggest that, for the most part, there is a high degree of similarity between the U.S. and Canadian views with respect to green issues in logistics. The paper concludes with a discussion of potential implications of the study's findings for logistics professionals.
