TAMPA'S ELECTRIC STREETCAR: CREATING COMMUNITY VISION THROUGH PARTNERSHIP
The purpose of the Tampa's revived electric streetcar is to provide mobility and connectivity between Ybor City, the Channelside and Garrison Seaport Districts, and the Convention Center in a way that will stabilize existing and stimulate new economic development, and preserve the historic character of the area. Goals and objectives to be realized as a result of the project implementation include: complete the community vision, provide transit accessibility, historic preservation, provide a safe and secure environment, provide passenger convenience, enhance urban aesthetics, provide an efficient and dependable operation, provide intermodal connections, reduce roadway congestion, connect parking with venues, and improve air quality. The system is scheduled to begin operation in late fall of 2000.
