RAPID RAIL TRANSIT ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB: A WORLDWIDE REVIEW
In the last decade of the 20th century, the World Wide Web (www) has become recognized as one of the most exciting technological innovations available to transportation professionals. The cutting edge technology of the web has allowed rapid rail transit (RRT) to distribute information to the general public effectively and efficiently. A good website for an RRT agency may provide useful information to the public in a timely manner. This paper attempts to conduct a worldwide review of the www applications in RRT systems to obtain a full understanding of the issues involved in the planning and design of a user friendly and successful web site. It also provides a guided tour to the RRT web sites in seven metropolitan areas around the world, including New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Toronto, London, Paris, and Hong Kong.
