FULLY AUTOMATED SYSTEMS FOR URBAN TRANSIT APPLICATIONS - ADVANTAGES AND SPECIFICITIES
MATRA Transport International, a joint venture of Siemens and the Group Lagarder, specializes in the production of automatic guideway transit systems and in automatic train control systems. The article reviews the development of the systems that provide: an improvement in the urban public transit due to an optimal adaptation to local site conditions; an environmental protection limiting noise pollution and saving air quality; optimization of operating costs; and an absolute passenger safety and high traffic frequencies at the same time. Some additional advantages discussed include: a better quality of service by shorter, more frequent trains; maximizing the benefits of a multimodal integrated network; a highly flexible operation, adapted in real time to the demand, increases, and transit efficiency.
