RAPID BUS DEVELOPMENT IN VANCOUVER, BC
Rapid Bus is a new way of looking at a bus service. First, the service can be considered as a stepping stone to the development of intermediate capacity transit systems (ICTS)( busway, light rapid transit or automated rapid transit); and, secondly, rapid bus can provide a high quality bus service in medium density corridors where investment in ICTS is not justified due to costs and ridership. This paper describes the concept of rapid bus, the experience to date with operating the first line and the plans being developed to implement other lines.
