IMPACTS OF TRANSIT PRIORITY
The objective of this paper is to assess the effectiveness of bus priority along the High Street corridor. The benefits to bus riders and the impacts on automobiles as a result of applying priority schemes were examined in the study area, which included all 32 intersections on High Street from Fifth Avenue and Morse Road in Columbus, Ohio. The existing traffic conditions in the corridor were coded into traffic simulation and signal optimization computer models. The modeling of existing conditions provided a baseline for analysis of proposed bus priority strategies in the corridor; and existing traffic signal timings, intersection geometric, car and bus traffic volumes, and other operation parameters were coded in the model. A simulation of existing operational conditions was conducted for the pm peak period; and several key pieces of data were collected from different sources.
