TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR CONTRACTORS
The author interviews Kathi Holst, president of Alternate Construction Controls, Inc., Romeoville, Illinois, to discuss what a well-run, safe, traffic control operation requires. These tips are essential for safety: (1) Have a certified traffic control supervisor on site at each job; (2) Train as many of your workers as possible in traffic control safety; (3) Make sure the traffic control supervisor on site is not just responsible for traffic control; (4) Upgrade delineation devices; (5) Upgrade arrow boards; (6) Use the proper traffic control devices for each situation; (7) Keep informed; (8) Hold regular safety meetings; and (9) Hire a traffic control subcontractor.
