ACCESS MANAGEMENT: A GUIDE TO ROADWAY CORRIDORS
The paper provides several specific 'rules' to follow when implementing land use strategies that benefit access management and allows sustainable development. The three key areas for consideration are: 1) land use strategies: setting development boundaries, defining appropriate land uses, defining standards for development, and defining land subdivision standards; 2) curb cuts, driveways and parking: limiting number of curb cuts, separating curb cuts and intersections, plan for public parking, require pedestrian and bicycle connections, and make provisions for transit where applicable; and 3) site development strategies: viewing the whole, parking lot location and design, driveway location and design, and pedestrian and bicycle considerations.
