EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON HIGH-STRENGTH CONCRETE DEEP BEAMS. DISCUSSION

A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by S. Foster and R.I. Gilbert, published in this journal (Volume 95, Number 4, July-August 1998), is presented. The discusser observes that the authors' tests may represent actual deep beam conditions, but as tension failure controls the effects of the variables under consideration, web reinforcement and concrete strength may have been obscured.
