SOLAR SHUTTLE BOATS PLY LAKE GENEVA
Two solar-powered shuttle boats seating 24 passengers each began service on Lake Geneva in Switzerland in the summer of 1997, providing service between Lausanne and Saint Sulpice. The vessels' nearly silent electric motors are operated by electric power that is generated by an array of solar cells covering 150 sq ft (14 sq m), located on the roof of each vessel, providing environment-friendly public transport. On overcast days they can be charged with a power cable at the pier.
