BRIDGE FAILURES - CAUSES, ANALYSIS AND LESSONS LEARNT
This paper describes the conditions of various catchments during the most extraordinary rainfalls which caused failure of many major bridges in the State of Jaipur. It is suggested therefore, that greater emphasis be given to "design discharge assessment" to take care of such most extra ordinary floods which may occur once in 100 years or more. It is proposed also that assessment guidelines thereof should be prepared by the Indian Roads Congress. (A)
