PATENT SPECIFICATION NO 47490/73. IMPROVEMENTS IN VEHICLE GUIDANCE SYSTEMS
The invention relates to vehicle guidance systems in which an ac signal is passed along a leader conductor buried in the road surface. The currents induced in vehicle-borne receivers are used to steer the vehicle making it follow the conductor. The specification gives the theory of the system and details of the electronic circuits. The problem of currents being induced in the reinforcement matrix of concrete roads effecting the vehicle guidance is overcome by using two frequencies in the leader conductor. The receiver is designed so that the control signal is substantially independent of signals induced in fixed conductors near the leader conductor. Two sensor coils are placed one each side of the vehicle, the difference between voltages induced in the coils is proportional to the horizontal transverse /TRRL/
