SOFTWARE ASSISTS IN DESIGN OF HIGHEST EUROPEAN GEOSYNTHETIC-REINFORCED WALL
ReSlope design software was used to design a 28 m (92 ft) geogrid-reinforced retaining wall constructed in Spain: the highest such wall to be built in Europe. The wall creates the level ground necessary to build a four-lane highway on a very steep slope between an existing railway at its toe and a state road near its peak. The wall is faced with vegetated gabions that provide additional stability and an attractive appearance. The site is located on the new Madrid-La Coruna motorway in Ponferrada in Northwest Spain. The retaining wall was completed in the fall of 1998.
