THE EVOLVING TMA: RESULTS FROM THE 1998 ACT TMA COUNCIL OPERATIONAL SURVEY
The Association of Commuter Transportation Management Associations Council (ACT TMA) conducted a survey in 1998 of the 135 known TMAs to learn how these organizations have evolved. The survey received a 70% response rate from the 135 identified TMAs. While there are considerable differences in terms of the size of the organization, staffing, policy making commuter representation and services, the common element remains aiding the commuter's transportation experience. This article explores the differences and similarities between TMAs, it offers a synopsis of the survey statistics, and it offers comparisons primarily between the different types of TMAs: regional, citywide, corridor, central business district, suburban, and activity center.
