QA THROUGH ADVANCED QC
This article describes a quality assurance approach, called Advanced Quality Control, of one asphalt company in Ohio. The plan includes a plant operation quality control plan that details specific equipment calibration procedures and requires maintenance and recalibration on a regular basis. It also details equipment operation procedures. Plant operators and technicians have the authority to adapt and respond to problems, as well as to shut the plant down if they have concerns about the quality of the product that they are producing. Much initial effort was involved in setting up the system. A 2-in (5-cm) thick quality-control manual was compiled, and plans were tailored to the equipment and conditions at each of the plants. However, it is now a tool that the company uses to promote its product.
