COLLAPSE OF DANISH PRESTRESSED TANKS
A number of tendon-stressed tanks have collapsed in recent years in Denmark. The tanks were constructed of precast concrete wall panels erected on an in situ base slab. The collapses occurred during tensioning, or within 4 hours subsequent to tensioning. The risk of collapse for tanks of the type considered here might be reduced by placing the wall panels in a recess in the base slab, filling the recess with grout, and letting this harden before tensioning.
