A PARTNERSHIP THAT FREES OUR CITIES FROM FUMES AND GRID-LOCK
This article examines international efforts to decrease emissions pollution from transit vehicles. The focus is on Volvo's partnerships with a number of European and South American cities to contain transit air pollution. For example, Curitiba, Brazil joined Volvo in the development of a bi-articulated bus with a passenger capacity of 175, which has decreased automobile congestion. Since 1993, Volvo has been supplying natural gas-drive (CNG) buses to cities and towns in Sweden, as well as supplying liquid petroleum (LPG) models to customers abroad. On June 1, 1996, Sweden's three largest cities introduced inner-city control zones, to which only vehicles complying with strict emission control standards will be admitted.
