SEAPORTS: AN INTRODUCTION TO THEIR PLACE AND PURPOSE

This book is concerned with the place of a Seaport in the overall transportation mode and illustrates both the influence of that environment upon its facilities and activities and the procedures of organization and operation which promote its effectiveness within the wider maritime field. Trade patterns and traffic flow, ship evolution, equipment development and useage, types and classification of ports, organizational structure and staff training, the place of external associations, the development of marketing services and seaports planning are all considered in terms of their integration within the working of the port itself and also its relationship to the wider issues of the industry of which it is a part.
