CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF COOPERATIVE RESEARCH
For many years, Texans and non-Texans alike have regarded the state as having one of the best developed and maintained state highway systems in the nation. This is due in part to Texas' Cooperative Research Program (CRP), which celebrated its 50th anniversary in September 1998. This journal issue is devoted to the anniversary of that 1948 agreement between the Texas Highway Department and the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. Research and implementation are highlighted by decades with short descriptions and numerous photographs. The CRP is directly and indirectly responsible for the implementation of research that has saved thousands of lives and billions of dollars in Texas and the United States. Cooperative research efforts have increased the awareness of transportation problems beyond traditional engineering applications.
