CHOOSING A SHUTTLE BUS
Paratransit is a big issue in public transit. Most agencies maintain some sort of paratransit operation, either as a dedicated arm of the agency or as a contracted service. Paratransit usually consists of shuttles and vans for on-demand service, handicapped transportation, and low-traffic areas like rural routes. This article takes a detailed look at the decision-making process of three operations: shuttle bus service for the Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, Arizona; the Pasco County Public Transit (PCPT) servicing a 760-square mile area of Central West Florida; Red Rose Transit Authority, which serves Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
