PLANE-STRAIN MODELING OF SMEAR EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH VERTICAL DRAINS. DISCUSSIONS AND CLOSURE
Two discussions of a technical note with the aforementioned title by B. Indraratna and I.W. Redana, published in this journal (Volume 123, Number 5, May 1997), are presented. Discusser Landau points out that the parameter Beta is dimensionless, uncovering a typographical error in one of the paper's equations. The remaining discussers present an approach to plane-strain modeling that tends to average the axisymmetric smear zone across the plane-strain unit cell. The discussions are followed by closure from the authors.
