URBAN TRANSPORT IN BAMAKO
LES TRANSPORTS URBAINS A BAMAKO
The fast growing demography and the outspread of the city of Bamako have been straining the urban transportation system. The problems reside at the infrastructure level as well as at the public transit system organization's level where individual companies fiercely compete with structured transportation companies. The latter somewhat fulfill a public service mission which place them at a disadvantage in a pure competition environment; thus, the legality of the request for public aid and the enforcement of the favorable exclusivity disclosures contained in the concession contract they signed with the authorities. The urban transportation policy actions underway should improve the urban transportation in Bamako, mainly at the security level. In the long term, the urban public transit study in perspective bears all the hope.
