LONDON LUTON AIRPORT NEW ACCESS ROAD: A SUCCESSFUL CONSTRUCTION PARTNERSHIP
Studies to assess the growth in future passenger traffic at London Luton Airport have forecast that the current (1994) traffic of about 2 million passengers per year will increase to 20 million passengers per year by 2015. In view of this future expansion, London Luton Airport Limited has formulated a long-term development strategy which includes innovative integrated and sustainable transport links. The new access road is an important part of this development strategy. This paper describes the various stages of the new access road from its inception and planning through to final completion of construction and outlines how the informal partnering process, instigated after tender award, helped to ensure the project;s successful conclusion.
