THE 1994 ECONOMIC IMPACT OF AVIATION IN NORTH DAKOTA

In 1987, a study was conducted for the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission to determine the economic impact of aviation in North Dakota. Its purpose was to emphasize the following factors concerning aviation's impact on local economies in the State: (1) Aviation functions as an economic activity which generates employment, the purchase of goods and services, and the payment of taxes. (2) Aviation provides a service that contributes significantly to agricultural, commercial, and industrial growth and development. The 1987 Economic Impact Study proved to be a valuable tool in demonstrating aviation's contribution to North Dakota's commercial and industrial growth. In 1994, the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission produced this study, an update to its 1987 Economic Impact Study. The 1994 update revealed significant growth in most aspects of the aviation industry in the eight years since the initial study was undertaken. This report documents the analysis and findings of the 1994 update. As in the 1987 study, this update quantifies the benefits of aviation and demonstrates its value to the public. As in the 1987 study, economic impact is defined as employment and expenditures attributed to aviation in North Dakota.
