CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN OF CABLE-STAYED BRIDGES
This book which presents the current state of the art of cable-stayed bridges, discusses the general principles of such bridges relating to all facets of technical design, construction details and potential economies. The history of cable stayed bridges is outlined, and the principal features used in modern bridges are detailed, including geometrical configuration, the types and styles of towers and the different types of roadway decks made from different materials and methods. Illustrations of bridges from various countreis are discussed and accompanied by appropriate detail sketches and photographs of the special featrues. The manufacturing and production processes of making structural wire, rope and strand are discussed. The types and methods of making the connection between the cables and the deck and/or towers are also discussed. The discussion of special aspects in the analysis and design of cables and structures includes a summary of the general behavior of cables, a detailed explanation of the use of an equivalent modulus of elasticity for the cable as a substitute member, and an account of wind and aerodynamic effects. Methods of fabrication and erection are also presented.
