BUS PRIORITY AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS TERMINING A CONTRA-FLOW BUS LANE IN WALSALL

This report describes a study of bus priority at a signal- controlled junction in Walsall, West Midlands. Buses travelling towards the junction along a contra-flow bus lane are able to recall a green light if the signal is red as they approach. Survey showed that buses saved an average of nearly six seconds. Other traffic on the same signal stage as the buses gaining priority also saved time, but traffic on the opposing stage lost time. The net benefit, in time-value terms, lies in the range 330-630 lbs per annum. /Author/
