ALPINE TRIALS FOR AUSTRO-SWEDISH VENTURE : TESTS ARE NEARING COMPLETION ON THE TAUERN HIGHWAY ELECTRONIC DEBITING PROJECT
This article describes test results of a microwave toll debiting pilot project on the A10 Tauern Highway in Austria. The aim of the project is to prove both the feasibility and reliability of debiting vehicles by using a microwave link between and mounted transceiver unit and an onboard unit which function as a semi-passive microwave transponder. The onboard unit is equipped with a smart card that contains information about the drive and electronic value. The most unique feature of the project is that the system is designed to give refunds and half fares.
