APPLICATIONS OF FUZZY SET CONCEPTS TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION ANALYSIS ON FREEWAY
This paper describes a fuzzy regionalization approach and its application to traffic situation analysis on a freeway. Membership functions of regions are defined based on the fundamental diagram of a specific freeway. Fuzzy boundaries are then determined. Using real measurements and this technique, deciding when and where traffic congestion occurs is made possible.
