SELLING THE PUBLIC ON IVHS/ITS
This paper discusses the generic need for gainings public acceptance of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Using a perspective based on the experience with the TransGuide project, the paper recommends that ITS advocates be proactive, that they focus on those who are influential in the community, that they simplify media messages, and that they evaluate and adjust their campaigns as appropriate. The paper ends by presenting some valuable tools for selling traffic management: consumer brochures and videos, public service announcements, speakers bureaus, and networking.
