LASER RANGEFINDERS: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
Several developments toward miniaturization, improving the performance to cost ratio and developing multi-purpose equipments have provided the 1. 06mm rangefinders/designators with more momentum to meet new missions. On the other hand, because the carbon dioxide lasers exhibit many interesting features, it is of no surprise that many attempts are now made to field test equipment so as to definitely settle the requirements of 10.6mm rangefinders. It is concluded that aside from those missions where 10.6mm rangefinders offer unique advantages, it may still take some time before they reach the same level of general technological maturity as that of the 1.06mm rangefinders.
