DESIGN LIFE VALIDATION TESTING OF HEAVY DUTY TRANSIT BUSES
This report proposes the use of road simulation technology for the structural qualification of new bus structures to enable more extensive testing in the product development cycle than is currently possible using conventional test track technology. A methodology was developed that allows for a New York equivalent 500,000 mile design life qualification within a practical time frame. Both manufacturers and operators of heavy duty transit buses will benefit from this technology because the expectations of revenue service life can be reasonably assured. (A)
