PRECURSOR SYSTEMS ANALYSES OF AUTOMATED HIGHWAY SYSTEMS VEHICLE OPERATIONAL ANALYSIS. VOLUME EIGHT
This report presents the vehicle operational analysis segment of the Precursor Systems Analyses of Automated Highway Systems (AHS) project. The report analyzes the reliability requirements and issues associated with the development operation and deployment of vehicles for five evolutionary representative configurations (ERSCs). The emphasis of the report is on the issues associated with the evolution of vehicle control, the reliability and vehicle and driver diagnostic requirements, maintenance, retrofitting, and deployment scenarios for each ERSC. The report documents the results of a failure modes and effects analysis ( FMEA) that includes a list of potential failure modes, their potential causes and effects, their severity and occurrence ratings and a list of design requirements and recommendations for each ERSC.
